Plateaux flatness in the ACQHR: do gates really help?

We describe audiofrequency measurements of quantum Hall resistors mounted with and without back-gates. When appropriate potentials are applied to the gates, flat plateaux are obtained; but under these circumstances we find ambiguities in the measured Hall values.
