Zusammenfassung: | From a gender perspective, there is a serious imbalance in the gender structure of principals in elementary and secondary school. Existing studies have shown that the problem is affected by a combination of social, organizational and individual factors, but these studies have not clarified the key: gender differences or gender discrimination? In response to this, based on the large-scale survey data in Jiangsu province, we found that gender is an important factor influencing the chances of getting the position of principal, female teachers have the same qualifications as male teachers in terms of educational background, professional title and work experience; moreover, female principals are even better than male principals in terms of leadership and action. However, female teachers have significantly less chances of running for principals than male teachers.
