Magnetic Effects at High Quantum Numbers

An extended Bohr model is proposed, incorporating Landau’s quantization, for the treatment of magnetic splittings of atomic levels at high quantum numbers. The results agree well with the splittings observed by Garton & Tomkins (1969) in the 6s2 1S0–6snp 1P01 series of BaI for values of n up to...

Zusammenfassung:An extended Bohr model is proposed, incorporating Landau’s quantization, for the treatment of magnetic splittings of atomic levels at high quantum numbers. The results agree well with the splittings observed by Garton & Tomkins (1969) in the 6s2 1S0–6snp 1P01 series of BaI for values of n up to 32, and qualitatively up to n = 40.
