Evidence for a resonant structure in inclusive Cu(p,π +)X reactions between 300 and 400 MeV

The energy spectra of positive pions between 23 and 122 MeV produced by protons of 300 to 400 MeV on copper have been measured at 90° in the laboratory frame. A surprisingly narrow structure (FWHM ⪅ 10 MeV) is observed for low energy pions at T p lab =350 MeV.
