Extending the Vostok ice-core record of palaeoclimate to the penultimate glacial period

Ice cores drilled at Vostok in East Antarctica provide a record of past temperature, dust accumulation and air composition. A new core from the site extends the record back a further 55,000 years so that the Vostok record now covers two complete glacial-interglacial cycles.
