Zusammenfassung: | Arthur S. Eddington was the Director of Cambridge Observatory when the Armistice was signed on November 11th, 1918. He was also involved in several scientific organisations, especially the Royal Astronomical Society and the Royal Society. This paper presents his actions in favour of cooperation within the scientific community between 1914 and 1928. He had multiple contacts both in England and abroad, and he did his best to promote the renewal of scientific relationships in the aftermath of WWI. Thus, the reader is to encounter, among others, the Dutch Willem De Sitter, the French Emile Picard, the English Arthur Schuster, the American George H. Hale, the Australian Henry Brose, the Swedish Elis Strömgren, the Germans Max Wolf, and of course, Albert Einstein. |
