Reducing the Degree of Branching in Polyacrylates via Midchain Radical Patching: A Quantitative Melt-State NMR Study

Mid-chain radicals play a key role in the radical polymerization of acrylates. Quantitative melt-state NMR has been used for the first time in a kinetic study quantifying the degree of branching in polyacrylates. It was shown that thiols readily react with mid-chain radicals (and not only secondary...

Zusammenfassung:Mid-chain radicals play a key role in the radical polymerization of acrylates. Quantitative melt-state NMR has been used for the first time in a kinetic study quantifying the degree of branching in polyacrylates. It was shown that thiols readily react with mid-chain radicals (and not only secondary propagating radicals) to form linear polymers thus effectively "patching" them.
