Towards deep insight into Ebola virus disease

[...]what little is known about this severe, acute disease has come exclusively from animal models. The exhaustive analysis of biological variables done in this study showed typical features of Ebola virus disease, with transient lymphopenia and thrombocytopenia, and high concentrations of liver enzymes, C-reactive protein, and creatine kinase.3,4 Together with the high viral load at admission (about 1 x 107 RNA copies per mL 24 h after onset of fever), these results suggest that the patient had a severe infection.
