Zusammenfassung: | Magnetic measurements and neutron powder diffraction investigation of the magnetic structure of the YNi4Si-type TbNi4Si compound are presented. The magnetocaloric effect of TbNi4Si is calculated in terms of the isothermal magnetic entropy change and it reaches the maximum value of –6.3J/kgK for a field change of 0–50kOe near TC of ~37K.
Below ~37K and in a zero applied magnetic field, TbNi4Si exhibits a commensurate b-axis collinear ferromagnetic ordering with the Cmm′m magnetic space group. At 1.5K, the terbium magnetic moment reaches the value of 8.66(6)μB.
