Effect of serotonin transporter blockade on L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia in animal models of Parkinson’s disease

Highlights • The serotonergic system plays a key role in LID. • The SSRI citalopram is able to fully counteract LID in 6-OHDA-lesioned rats. • Citalopram also suppressed LID in MPTP-treated macaques but affected L-DOPA efficacy.
