Zusammenfassung:Kaatialaite, with a formula close to FeAs3O9.6H2O 154(or Fe(H2AsO4)3.3H2O), occurs naturally admixed with arsenolite and other minor phases as a pale grey to yellow powdery weathering product on lollingite from the granite pegmatite at Kaatiala, Kuortane, W Finland. The X-ray powder pattern is identical with that of synthetic FeAs3O9.8H2O 154(or Fe(H2AsO4)3.5H2O). Additional properties of the synthetic phase have been determined. It is monoclinic P21 or P21/m, a 15.363(5), b 19.844(5), c 4.736(2) A, beta 91.77(3)o, Z=4. Optically biaxial positive, the synthetic phase has refractive indices alpha 1.581, beta (calc) 1.582, gamma 1.625. The strongest XRD lines for the synthetic material are 8.33(100), 7.68(70), 9.94(50), 6.08(40), 3.153(45) 3.410(40) A; , for the natural mineral the corresponding data are 8.35(vs), 7.72(s), 9.91(s), 3.159(m), 6.09(m), 3.408(m) A.
