Noncommunicable Disease: The Case of Mental Health, Macroeconomic Effect of

Mental disorders have large economic impacts that are often spread well beyond health care systems into employment, criminal justice, income support, and other systems. There are multiple, complex, two-way links between mental disorders and both employment difficulties, debt and poverty. Efforts are already being made to break, weaken, or respond to the links between the state of the macroeconomy and mental health-related needs, although in most countries a lot more could be done.
