Zusammenfassung: | Educational indicators are statistics that describe key aspects of schooling which permit the evaluation and monitoring of schools, teachers, programs, and students. It is argued that validation of educational indicators should be concerned with the extent to which information provided by each indicator is able to demonstrate effects upon student outcomes. This article also provides suggestions for building a methodology to test the validity of indicators and for identifying direct and indirect effects of factors addressed upon student outcomes. Criteria for valid indicators are presented. Finally, implications of generating valid indicators for policymaking and educational research are drawn. |
