Cost of production and economic viability of the cultivation of high technology corn in the semi-arid region of Pernambuco/Costo de produccion y viabilidad economica del cultivo de maiz de alta tecnologia en la region semiarida de Pernambuco/Custo de producao e viabilidade economica do cultivo de milho de alta tecnologia no semiarido pernambucano

Brazil is one of the largest responsible for meeting the world's demand for food. Corn plays a prominent role as the most cultivated cereal throughout the national territory, whose productivity has shown increases, mainly due to better practices in management systems. However, a worrying factor for the corn production chain is the production cost. In this sense, the purpose of this study is to seek information about the production cost and profitability of corn cultivation in the municipality of Serra Talhada, Sertao de Pernambuco. The study was carried out based on a 1 hectare corn crop sown in a direct planting system at the Instituto Agronomico de Pernambuco, Fazenda Saco in the municipality of Serra Talhada, PE. The methodology used consisted of analyzing the cost of inputs and management activities. Subsequently, crop productivity data was obtained in bags per hectare. To determine the economic viability of crops, the following indicators were used: Bag price; Gross Revenue; Total cost and Net Revenue. It is concluded that the production cost of 1 hectare of high-investment corn in the municipality of Serra Talhada PE in the year 2023 is 6,579.00 and that under the conditions of this study, the production of high-investment corn in the municipality of Serra Talhada, semi-arid region of Pernambuco, is not an economically viable activity. El maiz juega un papel destacado como el cereal mas cultivado en todo el territorio nacional, cuya productividad aumenta, principalmente por las mejores practicas en los sistemas de manejo.
