COMPARISON OF TWO CRITERIA FOR MONITORING THE GROWTH OF AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITY IN THE REGIONS OF THE STATE AND SAO PAULO AT DIFFERENT TIMES/COMPARACAO DE DOIS CRITERIOS DE ACOMPANHAMENTO DO CRESCIMENTO DA ATIVIDADE AGROPECUARIA NAS REGIOES DO ESTADO E SAO PAULO EM MOMENTOS DISTINTOS/COMPARACION DE DOS CRITERIOS PARA EL SEGUIMIENTO DEL CRECIMIENTO DE LA ACTIVIDAD AGRICOLA EN LAS REGIONES DEL ESTADO Y DE SAO PAULO EN DIFERENTES MOMENTOS

The value of agricultural production is very frequently used to evaluate agricultural performance from one year to another and also between regions. Determining the criteria that can evaluate disparities in economic activity is among the main difficulties in public policy. The objective of this work was to compare two criteria for monitoring agricultural performance in the regions of the Rural Development Offices in the state of Sao Paulo. Information was collected regarding agricultural production and use of rural areas in 2008 and 2017 in the regions of the Rural Development Offices of the state of Sao Paulo. The first variable deals with the value of agricultural production in each region. Next, three variables related to the way in which rural areas are used, in hectares, are observed. The value of agricultural production is an important indicator of the evolution of agricultural activity in a region, especially when comparing different moments in time. However, different area dimensions make it difficult to evaluate performance using this criterion, as there is no weighting in relation to the area used. The greater participation of temporary crop areas was associated with an increase in the value of agricultural production without being associated with an increase in the regions' financial contribution per hectare, while areas with pastures reduced the value of production and the financial contribution per hectare. O valor da producao agropecuaria e utilizado com muita frequencia para avaliar o desempenho da agropecuario de um ano em relacao a outro e tambem entre regioes. Determinar os criterios que podem avaliar as disparidades de atividade economica esta entre as principais dificuldades de politica publica. O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar dois criterios de acompanhamento do desempenho agropecuario nas regioes dos Escritorios de Desenvolvimento Rural do estado de Sao Paulo. Foram levantadas informacoes relativas sobre a producao agropecuaria e uso da area rural no ano de 2008 e 2017 das regioes dos Escritorios de Desenvolvimento Rural do estado do Sao Paulo. A primeira variavel trata do valor da producao agropecuaria de cada regiao. Na sequencia, observam-se tres variaveis relacionadas a forma de utilizacao das areas rurais, em hectares.
