Zusammenfassung:Migratory population movements have become, in historiography, component items of possible narratives regarding the constructions of identity, belonging and origin of modern states and nations. The objective of the present study was to carry out an integrative review of the literature, in order to understand Portuguese emigration in the context of the colonial policies of the Estado Novo, in the second half of the 20th century. A search of references was carried out in the CAPES Periodicals, Google Scholar and Pubmed databases in December 2023. The search allowed the identification of 9 articles that met the established and established criteria. From data analysis, it was possible to verify that 88.8% of the articles indicated that Portuguese emigration during the Estado Novo period had increasing rates, mainly towards Africa and Latin America. Emigrants were mainly made up of individuals looking for better economic living conditions and over time they ended up creating chains of solidarity, providing investments in colonized lands and searching for new settlers in Portugal. However, 11.2% of the articles indicate that at the end of the Estado Novo there was a political emigration movement mainly towards other countries in Western Europe and Latin America. 11.2% of the articles indicate that the Portuguese Estado Novo intensified spending on colonization processes in Africa as part of the anti-colonial wars. Therefore, it was possible to conclude that emigration movements in Portugal decreased with the end of the Estado Novo; migrants who, in general, left Portugal towards African countries such as Angola, for example, started to return due to the anti-colonial wars. From then on, migratory movements were directed to a greater extent towards other regions of Western Europe with a lower flow than immigration movements. Keywords: Migration; second portuguese republic; colonialism; african continent.
