PROFILE OF OCCUPATIONAL ACCIDENTS INVOLVING EXPOSURE TO BIOLOGICAL MATERIAL AMONG NURSES IN THE STATE OF MARANHAO FROM 2014 TO 2023/PERFIL DOS ACIDENTES DE TRABALHO COM EXPOSICAO A MATERIAL BIOLOGICO ENTRE ENFERMEIROS NO ESTADO DO MARANHAO DE 2014 A 2023/PERFIL DE LOS ACCIDENTES DE TRABAJO CON EXPOSICION A MATERIAL BIOLOGICO EN ENFERMEROS DEL ESTADO DE MARANHAO DE 2014 A 2023

An accident is a sudden, involuntary event in which the action or reaction of an object, substance, individual or radiation results in personal injury or material damage. Professionals working in health services, such as nurses, are subject to a series of risks that can result in accidents at work. This study aimed to describe the profile of reported occupational accidents involving exposure to biological material involving nurses between 2014 and 2023 in the state of Maranhao. This is an epidemiological, descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative and retrospective approach. The study included all notified cases of work accidents in the state of Maranhao, both suspected and confirmed, involving nurses between 2014 and 2023, contained in the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System, in the information system for notifiable diseases. A total of 1,042 cases of accidents at work involving nurses were recorded between 2014 and 2023, with an average of 104.2 new cases per year, with 2023 having the highest number of notifications and 2014 the lowest. The study revealed that accidents were predominantly female (82.92%), of brown race (57.77%), between 20 and 39 years old (77.83%). Most occurred in the Sao Luis Urban Agglomeration micro-region (50.58%), in circumstances such as: other (23.03%) and puncture collection (14.01). Most of the cases were ignored or blank (46.45%). It can be concluded that seeking to understand the causes that lead to accidents at work can be a crucial factor in reducing occurrences. Os profissionais que trabalham na prestacao de servicos de saude, como enfermeiros, estao sujeitos a uma serie de riscos que podem resultar em acidentes de trabalho. Realizou-se este estudo visando descrever o perfil dos acidentes de trabalho com exposicao a material biologico notificados, envolvendo enfermeiros entre os anos de 2014 a 2023 no Estado do Maranhao.
