THE IMPACT OF METHYLPHENIDATE EN EL SISTEMA NERVIOSO CENTRAL RELACIONADO CON LOS ESTUDIANTES DE SALUD

This study aimed to evaluate the use of the medication Methylphenidate (Ritalin[R]) in academics in the health field, as well as the effects that this medication can cause on the central nervous system. This research aims to show the importance of correctly using medication and show the real consequences of improper use. An integrative literature review study was carried out, using the databases SCIELO (Scientific Electronic Library On-line), PUBMED and Google Scholar, with articles referring to the years 2018 to 2023 and magazines with qualifications higher than A3 to from the Keywords: "University Students"; "Ritalin"; "Methylphenidate"; "Intelligence pill"; "Self-medication", related to the themes and researched separately and grouped together. The consequences of using methylphenidate are abuse and dependence, masking of evolutionary diseases, especially mental health ones such as anxiety and panic syndrome, decreased appetite and decreased sleep. Specific and transient cardiovascular problems may arise, such as increased systolic pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate, as well as death, if the user has pre-existing heart problems. The use of Ritalin[R] for an indefinite and indiscriminate period of time can also generate neurological, physical and mental consequences, which leads us to rethink the intake and sale of this medication to people such as university students. In addition, the correct prescription and medical monitoring are essential in maintaining the safety of consumers of this medication. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o uso da medicacao Metilfenidato (Ritalina[R]) em academicos da area da saude, bem como os efeitos que essa medicacao pode causar no sistema nervoso central. Essa pesquisa tem o intuito de mostrar a importancia do uso correto da medicacao e mostrar as reais consequencias frente ao uso indevido.
