Zusammenfassung:DNA-matching and data privacy intersect to present a host of moral, ethical, and legal implications for our society. Our DNA forms the very fabric of our being and is, essentially, the blueprint for every biological aspect of our bodies. In addition to providing insight into ourselves, DNA also has the potential to connect us to other humans across the globe and span across generations to bring our roots to light. Over the past decade, the world was introduced to the phenomenon of direct-to-consumer DNA testing kits. These products have enabled society to engage in amateur genealogy projects at low costs to consumers. This industry has grown and evolved through various legal battles over the intellectual property rights to the technologies that enable DNA-matching companies to function. Although these legal disputes have historically pitted companies against other companies, there have been notable instances where a consumer has filed suit against a DNA-matching company. These lawsuits served as society's first exposure to the potentially insidious nature of some DNA-matching companies.
