Zusammenfassung:The use of the category of gender today is repetitive, its presence has become habitual in the language. However, the understanding of it comes from the information that is distributed through media and channels and from which the subjects form social representations regarding the subject. Likewise, the category of gender has been carried in various cultural and educational spaces without prior reflection, so much so that in many of these, such as schools and libraries, gender consists of a vague and distorted idea linked exclusively to feminism or sexual diversity. In particular, the library, whose social functions include guaranteeing access to information, the social appropriation of knowledge and the empowerment of subjects based on the assumption of critical citizenship, lacks a clear understanding of the concept of gender and with it the information that supports the subject in these spaces is scarce and insufficient. We present a reflection that links the understanding of the Library, from Abya-Yala as a cultural device and producer of meanings, located in a context where diversity requires a clear understanding of the populations that are part of the library, and with it the recognition of where the information that promotes representations and imaginaries regarding gender comes from and, therefore, the articulation of subjects with social reality.
