Zusammenfassung: | Ischemic stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity on health systems worldwide. Oxidative stress is well, believed to play a function in the pathogenesis of acute ischemic stroke. This study required to determine the association of MDA, SOD and catalase with ischemic stroke patients and normal healthy persons. Case-control studies have been done from October 2017 to July 2018. Total 200 subjects were included; each of 100 ischemic stroke and 100 normal healthy persons and age group was between 35 to 84 years and gender matched control. Malondialdehyde was estimated by Satoh k. method, Superoxide dismutase (SOD) using Nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) method, and Catalase was estimated by Sinha method. MDA is a biomarker of oxidative stress and its levels was significantly (p < 0.001) increased in ischemic stroke. SOD which acts as an antioxidant was significantly (p < 0.001) decrease in ischemic stroke; whereas catalase was significantly (p < 0.001) decrease in ischemic stroke. In conclusion, screening of oxidative stress is a potential risk factor for ischemic stroke patients and supplementation of antioxidants has better outcome in ischemic stroke patients. |
