Zusammenfassung: | Introduction: The human body composition encompasses the dimensioning of body compartments, among them; muscles, bones, fat, among others. With aging these compartments tend to change. It is estimated that in Brazil the elderly population in 2025 will be approximately 35 million, thus emerging as one of the countries with the largest elderly population. Objective: to evaluate the body composition of young and long-working active elderly women. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study conducted with 64 elderly women, participants of a community center located in the city of Salvador-BA. Sociodemographic information and anthropometric evaluation data were collected. Results: There is a higher prevalence of excess adiposity in elderly women classified as young (60-79 years). The long-working elderly women ([greater than or equal to] 80 years) presented higher prevalence for skeletal muscle tissue depletion. Body mass was higher in young women, accompanied by higher overweight and obesity, being 24.4% and 33.3%, respectively. Discussion: Overweight and obesity has been growing all over the world, especially in older people. The inflammatory condition resulting from android obesity favors the appearance of metabolic syndrome components. Body composition can be evaluated by different methods. Conclusion: The results suggest that anthropometric nutritional status among young and long-lived elderly women did not show statistically significant differences. Key words: Aging. Anthropometry. Obesity. As idosas longevas ([greater than or equal to] 80 anos) apresentaram maior prevalencia para deplecao de tecido muscular esqueletico.
