A LÓGICA MATEMÁTICA DE RUSSELL EM PRINCIPLES OF MATHEMATICS /RUSSELL'S MATHEMATICAL LOGIC IN PRINCIPLES OF MATHEMATICS

Livro que marca o início do projeto logicista de Russell, Principles of Mathematics é uma verdadeira cornucópia de ideias novas na Lógica, na Matemática e na análise da linguagem que dará origem à Filosofia Analítica. Embora o projeto logicista não tenha sobrevivido às suas dificuldades (mormente o problema do paradoxo e posteriormente o teorema de Gödel), o projeto desenvolveu grandemente a Lógica, agregando a ela a teoria dos conjuntos e a teoria das relações, ambas formalizadas em linguagem simbólica; ainda, é na lida com as dificuldades do projeto que Russell desenvolve sua teoria da denotação (esboçada neste livro e completada no artigo de 1905), que dá origem à Filosofia Analítica. Book that marks the beginning of Russell's logicist project, Principles of Mathematics is a true cornucopia of new ideas in Logic, Mathematics and the analysis of language that will give rise to Analytical Philosophy. Although the logicist project did not survive its difficulties (mainly the problem of paradox and later Gödel's theorem), the project greatly developed Logic, adding to it the set theory and the theory of relations, both formalized in symbolic language; still, it is in dealing with the difficulties of the project that Russell develops his theory of denotation (outlined in this book and completed in the 1905 article), which gives rise to Analytical Philosophy.
