Zusammenfassung: | Introduction: There is an increasing number of people diagnosed with some type of food allergy or intolerance. Objective: To characterize adverse food reactions (RAA) in children assisted by the National School Feeding Program. Materials and methods: It is a descriptive, prospective, transversal and quantitative research. The sample consisted of 44 children diagnosed with some type of adverse food reaction, both sexes, aged 2 to 9 years, from the municipal school system of Montes Claros-MG. Nutritional status was diagnosed using anthropometric indices, in addition to a questionnaire on the child's quality of life, answered by mothers and medical reports were analyzed. Results: There was a higher prevalence of children with only one adverse food reaction (63.3%). Lactose intolerance was the most evident type of RAA (31.9%), followed by milk protein allergy, and egg allergy. Regarding the children's quality of life, the general condition was considered mostly good (34.1%) and very good (27.3), and a large part claimed health improvement after confirmation of the diagnosis. In relation to quality of life, interferences in the social relations of children with family, friends and at school were verified. Conclusion: Adverse reactions related to milk were the most frequent. Most children were within normal limits, considering the anthropometric parameters analyzed. The quality of life of the child and parents suffers significant influences due to the reactions, interfering in the relationships between school and family social activities of the child.
