Zusammenfassung:Objective: In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of participation in a pregnant information class on healthy lifestyle behaviors of pregnant women. Material and Methods: The study was conducted as an analytical case-control study between October 2017 and May 2018 in Aydin Gynecology and Pediatrics Hospital. A total of 160 pregnant women, including 40 pregnant women participating in the pregnant information class constituting the case group and 120 pregnant women not participating in the pregnant information class constituting the control group were included in the study. Convenience sampling method was used to determine the sample group. For the case and control groups, three controls for each case were matched in terms of educational status, employment status, and number of living children. The Introductory Information Form and Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II) were used to collect the data. Data analysis was performed using numbers, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum-maximum values, chi-squared test, and Student t test. Results: It was found that the mean HPLP II total score (153.20 [+ or -] 15.61) of the pregnant women in the case group was higher than the total mean score (133.28 [+ or -] 15.34) of the pregnant women in the control group. In the case and control groups, the highest mean sub-factor score obtained from the scale was spiritual development (case group =29.75 [+ or -] 3.04, control group = 27.51 [+ or -] 3.75), the lowest mean sub-factor score was physical activity (case group = 19.20 [+ or -] 4.05, control group = 14.45 [+ or -] 4.09). It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the HPLP II total score and sub-factor mean scores of the groups (P < .05). Conclusion: Participation in the pregnant information class positively affects and increases the healthy lifestyle behaviors (HLB) of pregnant women. Pregnancy should be seen as an opportunity for the acquisition, development, and implementation of HLB, participation in pregnant information classes should be expanded, and long-term participation should be ensured in this process.
