Zusammenfassung: | Based on testimonies, the text describes the installations of the Cati barracks, headquarters of the 2nd Provisional Regiment of the Military Police of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, located on the border between the municipalities of Sant'Anna do Livramento and Quarai, close to the limit between Brazil and Uruguay, which operated between 1896 and 1909, under the command of Colonel Joao Francisco Pereira de Souza, known by the nickname of Hyena of the Cati. The text assesses the context of the creation and extinction of the Regiment and comments on the image of terror and order that the barracks and their commander have infused into literature and politics over the years. The Cati Headquarters was perhaps one of the most famous buildings built in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, considering its international fame at the time it worked and its strong presence in the region's imaginary for decades, which contrasts with the situation of abandonment in which its ruins are currently found. |
