Critical Appraisal: Analysis of a Prospective Comparative Study Published in IJS

Critical appraisal of a published paper is a very important tool every surgeon (and other medical specialists) has to learn. It requires knowledge of various aspects of research methodologies, clinical knowledge, and experience. One has to have a sharp and incisive mind to read carefully and analyze critically. Different types of studies require different types of tools to analyze. Here, a prospective comparative study which was published in a recent issue of the Indian Journal of Surgery (IJS) is chosen for critical appraisal.
