Zusammenfassung: | People's Universities emerged in France in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, spreading throughout Europe and Latin America. In Uruguay, within the struggle for University Reform, university students, joined by professionals, intellectuals and workers, organized in 1930 the first People's University, which would be followed by other institutions of this type in the following years. This article analyzes the creation, expansion and dissolution process of Uruguayan People's Universities. For decades these People's Universities were forgotten; however, register of these initiatives is scattered in private archives and various publications. This work responds to an effort with the intention of recovering their record of events. |
