Discovering Jorge Colaco: on History Painting and Artistic Hibridation/ Descobrindo Jorge Colaco: sobre a Pintura de Historia e a Hibridacao Artistica

Jorge Rey Colaco (1868-1942) was essentially known as a tile artist, an area in which he developed a prestigious career in the artistic scene of the early decades of the twentieth century. Following a family tradition in the arts, the artist began his career as a painter of oil paintings, a true passion that he almost abandoned with the production of tile panels. This article aims to investigate and reveal part ofJorge Colaco's still unknown pictorial production, rescuing some paintings of great stylistic quality.
