Zusammenfassung: | Background. Paediatric intensive care has developed rapidly in recent years, with a dramatic increase in survival rates. However, concerns have been raised regarding the impact that paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission has on the child, with potential ongoing risk of death after discharge. Objective. To describe the short- and long-term mortality outcomes of children following admission to a PICU. Methods. A systematic literature search was conducted using predefined search strategies in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus (including EMBASE), Web of Science, EBSCO, ProQuest, Google Scholar and CENTRAL. All English-language studies reporting mortality outcomes of children under 18 years old (excluding neonates) admitted to a PICU were eligible for inclusion, regardless of study design.
