Zusammenfassung:•Durability of ternary cement exposed to sulfate and acid attack is investigated.•Prediction of the durability performance is proposed.•The strength and expansion were influenced by the additions minerals types.•The use of LP in the hydrochloric acid environment is not recommended.•GGBFS can improve the resistance to sulfate attack of the ternary system. This study highlights the influence of the combination of limestone powder (LP) and Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) on the mechanical properties and durability performance of ternary blended cement. Mortars samples have been subjected to flexural and compressive tests and to 1% HCl, 3% H2SO4, 5% Na2SO4 and 5% MgSO4 attacks. The obtained results show that the incorporation of GGBFS in the cement containing LP is very useful to the sulfate and acid resistances. An empirical equation is proposed to predict the durability performance for ternary cement preserved in sulfate and acid solution taking into account the compressive strength. The comparison between the experimental results and those calculated by the proposed equation shows a good agreement in the estimation of the durability performance of ternary cement.
