APPLICATION OF DESCRIPTORS IN THE ANALYSIS OF SLUM UPGRADING PROJECTS/APLICACAO DE DESCRITORES NA ANALISE DE PROJETOS DE QUALIFICACAO URBANISTICA DE FAVELAS

This paper discusses characteristics and specificities of urban intervention projects in slums and provides a methodology that was used to analyze projects financed by the National Growth Acceleration Program (SlumUpgrading) in the Greater ABC Region (Metropolitan Sao Paulo). This analysis is concentrated on the physical dimensions of the intervention and includes aspects related to improvements in housing conditions, mobility, sanitation, and environment. For each of these dimensions of the analysis, we discuss final objectives as well as quantitative and qualitative descriptors.
