Zusammenfassung:This paper presents a critical review of the discourse around Brazilian architecture between 1985 and 1988, based on two of the most important Brazilian architecture magazines at the time: "Projeto" (Project) and "Arquitetura e Urbanismo" (Architecture and Urbanism). The main purpose is to identify elements of the agenda connected to the critical review of architectural theory and practice ongoing at that time, considering the expectations that the agents of that review put on the redemocratization process. A point that stands out is the tension between groups that advocated in favor of regionalism and historicism against the modern heritage of universalist aspirations. It is believed that the study of this intense debate can contribute to the understanding of the processes that took place in the architectural field during the political restructuration, whose repercussions seem to be fundamental for understanding Brazilian architecture ever since.
