Zusammenfassung:This article is the result of a theoretical research carried out by the Nucleo de Estudos e Pesquisa em Saude e Trabalho (NEST/ UFRGS), which dealt with the health of rural workers. In this sense, it deals with the processes of modernization in the rural areas in conjunctions with the transformations in work, as well as the implications of these changes in peasant life. In this regard, it points to the capital invested to consolidate the end of the family farming, either through cooperation with the industry, or through pluriactivity, a contemporary form of flexibility, and, moreover, of the precariousness of work in rural areas. Thus, the objective was to present pluriactivity and the articulation between rural work and industry as expressions of the transformation and precariousness of work in rural areas, as well as the contiguous possibility of the destruction of family farming.
