Zusammenfassung: | An overwhelming impression emerges from these four volumes, wherever one begins to read. It is clear that we have been thrust into a series of debates that is longstanding, often unresolved and possibly unresolvable, ingrained as they are in the two contradictory purposes of political economy - understanding and policymaking. Most of the disagreements invoked seem intractable; they include disputes - often quite bitter - over method and starting points and worldviews. The context of controversy hasn't helped either: in some cases, more than the authors have alluded to, lack of response from the mainstream profession seems to have been wilful, to the detriment of both analysis and critique. |
