The Supreme Court of Bahia in the final eighteenth century: Politicization of justice and juridical culture in the "Conjuracao Baiana" of 1798/O Tribunal da Relacao da Bahia no final do seculo XVIII: politizacao da justica e cultura juridica na Conjuracao Baiana de 1798

The purpose of this article is to analyze the role of the judges of the Supreme Court of Bahia in various conflicts and in the conduct on the investigation of the "Conjuracao Baiana" of 1798, highlighting the centrality of the institution in the structures and dynamics of the Portuguese Empire and its fundamental political role for the maintenance of colonial exploration in the conflictive transition from the eighteenth to the nineteenth centuries.
