Urban insecurity and social vulnerability. The case of Canada Real Galiana in Spain/ Precariedade urbana e vulnerabilidade social. O caso de Canada Real Galiana, na Espanha

Spain's Canadas Reales exist since the 13th century XIII as a passage for cattle. Current essay deals with the irregular occupation of the Real Canada of Galiana in the metropolitan area of Madrid, between the municipalities of Coslada, Rivas-Vaciamadrid and Madrid. It was only from 2008 that the government started to act on the issues involving the place. In fact, it is a heavily occupied region with few official data. Estimates give about twenty to forty thousand inhabitants. Actually it is a space occupied by gypsies, Moroccans, poor Spaniards and immigrants of several nationalities. Legislation exists that the population will be removed in two years. Current research presents the precarious integration conditions at the spatial and social levels of the resident population and reflects on the impact in an eventual eviction.
