Reverse logistics for empty agrochemical packages: recognition of the determinants of success/Logistica reversa de embalagens de agroquimicos: identificacao dos determinantes de sucesso/Logística inversa de envases de agroquímicos: identificación de los factores determinantes para el éxito

The unbridled pursuit of increased agricultural production through the expanded use of agrochemicals, has revealed the importance of environmental issues and problems regarding waste generation. Due to the emergence of such issues, reverse logistics of agrochemicals packaging is proving to be an important tool for reducing wastes improperly disposed into the environment by the agricultural sector. This paper aims to identify the main determinants that drove the successful implementation of this system in Brazil. Therefore, it was necessary to understand of the dynamics of the reverse logistics of agrochemical packaging, as well as to analyze the evolution of the consumption of agrochemicals. As main results, it was observed that the implementation of a legal apparatus has boosted reverse logistics and the mutual coordination of the agents involved, since the responsibilities of each sector are pre-set. It was also noted that education programs and environmental awareness have promoted has promoted the success of reverse logistics.
