Zusammenfassung:The radial variation in lengths, cell wall thickness, total diameter and lumen diameter of fibers in Erisma uncinatum wood from the Imataca Forest Reserve, Venezuela, were studied. The results indicate a gradual increase of the first two parameters, as the distance is increased from the pith to periphery trunk, and an inverse behavior for fiber diameter and the lumen diameter. The xylem tissue of this species shows short fibers of medium cell wall thickness. The average fiber length was 583.33µm and average cell wall thickness 1.54µm. Mean lumen diameter was 6.58µm and total fibers diameter ~9.70µm. Each evaluated parameter behaves radially in a particular way during the process of cell maturation. The results indicate a juvenile/mature wood demarcation from 50% of the radial distance in trees of 56cm average diameter.
