Maybe They're Phasing Us In: Re-mapping Fantasy Tropes in the Face of Gender, Race, and Sexuality

To celebrate the move of the Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts to Idaho State University, the ISU English Department (with assistance from the ISU Cultural Affairs Council and the ISU English Graduate Student Association) brought Nalo Hopkinson to campus to talk to classes, read from her work, and give an address to the English Graduate Student Association conference on April 14, 2007. She has kindly allowed us to publish her talk, which (as readers of Hopkinsons fiction might anticipate) offers a fresh and fascinating perspective on gender, race, popular culture, and the use of fantasy to interrogate all of those things.
