Zusammenfassung: | In order to improve mathematics and science teaching, many authorities recommend collaboration between all members of the mathematics and scientific communities. One form of collaboration is an intensive co-teaching partnership between K-12 teachers and graduate student scientists or mathematicians for their mutual professional growth, as is commonly employed in National Science Foundation GK-12 programs. However, co-teaching is inherently challenging and the differing professional cultures in which the two partners work and were trained compound the natural challenges of co-teaching. Consequently, partners need support in order to develop effective partnerships. This article describes a model for how to facilitate effective co-teaching partnerships between K-12 teachers and graduate students in science or mathematics. The model provides specific elements and support structures that other universities and schools could utilize to foster successful co-teaching teams. |
