Both are renowned for their research in the 1950s and 1960s that contributed to current understanding of immunologic deficiencies. Dr. Bruton served in the military. In 1948, while stationed in Europe, he noted in his diary that Dr. DiGeorge had been assigned to Dr. Bruton's pediatric service as part of a rotating internship. Dr. Bruton wrote that he was impressed with Dr. DiGeorge's professional abilities.
