Barraclough rise to prominence in the 1940s and 1960s was due mainly to his radical views on history. He insisted on developing a new historical perspective that does not focus solely on European history. Moreover, Barraclough emphasized the need to make history relevant in the present time. A discussion of Barraclough's illustrious career and the change he underwent to arrive at his new historical perspective is presented.
