For this, qualitative research was carried out with a case study, where the SEBRAE Potentiality Diagnosis Methodology was applied based on interviews. It was possible to verify the importance of the product for the region both from a cultural and economic point of view, the real possibilities of GI and the obstacles in relation to the sanitary conditions of production, which can be remedied with the operation of the factory that is in the process of construction. It is concluded that smoked meat from Maragogipe has potential for recognition of Geographical Indication according to this methodology. Keywords: Geographical Indication. Smoked Meat. A cidade de Maragogipe-BA e conhecida pela producao de carne de fumeiro devido ao seu processo diferenciado na forma de realizar o moqueio. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar as potencialidades da carne de fumeiro de Maragogipe-Bahia para se tornar uma Indicacao Geografica. Para isso, realizou-se uma pesquisa qualitativa com estudo de caso, onde a partir de entrevistas foi aplicada a Metodologia de Diagnostico de Potencialidade do SEBRAE. Foi possivel constatar a importancia do produto para a regiao tanto no ponto de vista cultural quanto economico, as reais possibilidades de IG e os entraves em relacao as condicoes sanitarias de producao, que podem ser sanadas com o funcionamento da fabrica que esta em processo de construcao.
