Zusammenfassung:The study investigated the relationship between change management strategies and the productivity of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Relying on Kotter’s change theory, the study adopted the cross-sectional research design involving a survey of 145 administrators of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The study results showed that transformational change, incremental change, remedial change, and unplanned change have a statistically significant positive relationship with organisational productivity. The results also showed that organisational learning and innovation are important determinants of successful change management, especially unplanned change. The findings of the study reinforced the need for tertiary institutions in Nigeria to be proactive by anticipating change and evolving strategies to enable them to cope with the dynamic operating environment. The study recommended that tertiary institutions in Nigeria should embrace incremental change which is more cost-effective than others, and transformational change to make them competitive in global university ranking and to avoid massive and drastic changes, which may be cost-intensive.
