Zusammenfassung: | The main objectives of this work were to study agriculture in the municipality of Independencia, RS, regarding historical evolution, agroecological zoning, production systems, level of social reproduction and development strategies. Data were obtained through interviews with thirty-five farmers in the second half of 2017 and first half of 2018 and the use of thematic maps and statistical data. Agriculture evolved from colonization, modernization, crisis in grain production, to development, at the turn of the millennium. Ten types of production systems and three emerging case studies were identified. Employer systems and intensive family farmers have high levels of income and intensive use of technology. However, family systems predominate. Among these, two systems and a case reach the level of social reproduction, a monthly minimum wage per unit of work. However, two types and a case do not reach this level. Animal traction is also used in a type of grain production and in a case study. From this, it was concluded that public policies should prioritize types and case studies that do not reach the level of social reproduction, under pain of abandoning their agricultural activities. Keywords: Agrarian Systems; Sustainability; Exclusion of Farmers. No entanto, predominam sistemas familiares.
