Zusammenfassung:Favela da Mare is a neighborhood in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro with about 140 thousand inhabitants, located in the heart of the main roads of the city. The neighborhood is known for the narratives about violence and poverty that have been published in the press for many decades. In 1978, the region was also known as "the end of the world" after an article in Jornal do Brasil with the title: "Favela da Mare: here is the end of the world". These official narratives about the region prevail as obstacles to residents, who continue to be stigmatized and socially excluded. However, seeking to understand this territory beyond violence and pejorative narratives, this article is an unfolding of the doctoral thesis "Mare de Lazer: constructions, sociability and meanings of leisure places in Morro do Timbau that sought to investigate the stories of the spaces of leisure in the residents' memories and records. The work analyzed the way in which local memories, sociability and identities were formed through the experiences fostered in one of the first parties recorded in the region (Arraia do Bico Mudo), indicating how residents tried to resist in a territory historically marked by precariousness and abandonment public power, typical of so many peripheries across the country. In this process, the commitment of groups to the use and construction of leisure spaces marked by affective relationships stands out. In addition, the work also investigates the ways in which collective arrangements were woven, such as bonds of friendship, conflict, territoriality and resistance from the experience and construction of the "Arraia". This research used the qualitative approach through narrative interviews, analysis of photos and documents. Thus, the thesis points to the importance of giving voice to experiences that challenge the neighborhood's stigma by presenting a narrative that values affection, sociability, memories and identity constructions in leisure spaces.
