Zusammenfassung:Introduction: Obesity is a multifactorial disease that has become a problem in Brazil. The main factors related to weight gain are the consumption of foods with high energy density, low nutritional value, and sedentary lifestyle. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the dietary intake of young adults with different Body Mass Indexes (BMI) from the Far West of Santa Catarina. Materials and methods: The method is a cross-sectional study and the sample consisted of 149 paired individuals by sex, age (18 to 30 years) and BMI. These were submitted to a food consumption frequency questionnaire. Discussion: The number of publications that address the object of this study is increasing, as well as the population's concern with issues related to health and nutrition. Results: The results show that in all groups of the different BMI, a low frequency of fruit consumption was observed, the frequency of consumption of soft drinks and processed foods was higher in the groups of overweight participants and in the three obese groups. Feeding care is also higher in participants with normal BMI when compared to the other groups. The results show the changes that have been occurring in the food pattern of the population, with the excess of industrialized products and the low consumption of fruits and vegetables, especially among the overweight groups. Conclusion: Thus, it is clear that campaigns and public policies are needed to stimulate good eating habits, in order to change the nutritional profile of Brazilians. Key words: Food consumption. Body Mass Index. Food. Introducao: A obesidade e uma doenca multifatorial que tem se tornado um problema no Brasil. Os principais fatores relacionados ao ganho de peso sao o consumo de alimentos de alta densidade energetica, baixo valor nutricional, e o sedentarismo. Objetivo: O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar o consumo alimentar de adultos jovens com diferentes Indices de Massa Corporal (IMC), do Extremo Oeste de Santa Catarina. Materiais e metodos: O metodo trata-se de um estudo transversal e a amostra foi composta por 149 individuos pareados por sexo, idade (18 a 30 anos) e IMC. Estes foram submetidos a um questionario de frequencia de consumo alimentar. Discussao: O numero de publicacoes que abordam o objeto deste estudo vem aumentando, assim como a preocupacao da populacao com questoes relacionadas a saude e alimentacao.
