Increase in Ductility of High Carbon Steel Due to Accelerated Precipitation of Cementite

Zusammenfassung: | Eutectoid steel AISI 1080 is studied after annealing at 850°C and thermal cycling treatment (TCT) that involves heating at a rate of 10 K/min to 775°C, holding for 10 min, and cooling at a rate of 95 K/min. An increase is established in the content of cementite precipitating over austenite grain boundaries, and relative elongation with retention of yield and ultimate strengths with an increase in number of TCT cycles. After five cycles relative elongation reaches 29% with ultimate strength of 670 MPa. |
