Zusammenfassung:Results of experimental studies of the extinction coefficient of optical fibers preliminary irradiated by thermal neutrons and compressed are presented. In this case, mechanical stresses arising in the multimode optical fiber (MOF) irradiated by thermal neutrons lead to further increase in the extinction coefficients. It is established that with increasing loading on the irradiated multimode optical fiber, the extinction coefficient changes in a wide range of wavelengths. Microfractures of the multimode optical fiber subjected to compression take place with a certain delay relative to the instant of maximum force application. This can be caused by the inertia of the process of mechanical failure of the MOF.
